Where is The Stronghold located?
We currently serve San Diego at 3 locations, Point Loma, Eastlake and Rancho Bernardo. Our Headquarters Location is in Point Loma at 2176 Chatsworth Blvd, right across the street from Point Loma High School.

What do you offer?
We offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Self-Defense Group Classes and Private Lessons for Adults and Kids. We also offer a Homeschooling/Independent Study Program and a Community Event Space.

What is Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on ground fighting- incorporating a system of joint locks, choke holds, sweeps, and positional dominance in order to control an opponent and force him or her to submit. The Stronghold offers a comprehensive BJJ program for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Whether you are interested in preparing for national tournaments or simply looking for a fun and exciting hobby, our program will equip you with the tools you need to meet your goals. We offer a friendly and open atmosphere, so please drop by and check us out!

I have never trained in a Martial Art, would The Stronghold be a good fit for me?
The Stronghold is a great place for beginners who are interested in Jiu Jitsu. Prior experience is not necessary.

What are your recommended ages for your Kids Jiu Jitsu Program?
We currently offer classes for Toddlers (Ages 3-4), Kids from Ages 5-12, and Teens/Adults from Ages 13 and up. Depending on their size, Kids 12 and up may be eligible to participate with the Adult class.

Do you offer Free Trials?
Yes! We offer a Free Week Trials for Jiu Jitsu. We also recommend to schedule a free intro private lesson before jumping into the week of group classes. All of our classes are beginner-friendly. We also welcome you to bring a friend!

What makes The Stronghold different from other schools?
At The Stronghold, we pride ourselves in providing high quality instruction and fostering community within our schools. While some schools may treat you like a number who pays monthly dues, we treat you like family. We encourage all of our members to participate in our community events, which occur often. We don’t just hang out in the gym, but hang out as a family outside as well. BBQ’s at the Beach, Baseball Games, Rock Climbing Days, the list goes on. Some may take breaks from training, but they will also be apart of The Stronghold Family and are welcome to all of our events and functions.

What equipment do I need prior to training at The Stronghold?
We recommend to wear spandex type tops and bottoms for our No-Gi and Self-Defense classes. We will provide a loaner gi (kimono/uniform) for gi classes. Flip flops/slippers are encouraged to get on and off the mat easily. Please also bring a water bottle! We have a water dispenser here at the academy to refill your bottle.

Who teaches your Jiu Jitsu Classes?
Our head Jiu Jitsu instructor is Michael Cusi. Our instructors also include John Laird, Johnny Tama, Rajiv Dudani, Audric De Castro, Chris Taheri, Jonas Robledo and Raquel Cusi.

Is there anything else I need to do prior to my class?

Yes! Please see below for our First Class Checklist:

1. Please sign the online waiver before arriving at the academy.
2. Bring flip flops and a water bottle.
3. If trying a gi class, please send your height and weight to Coach Raquel so we can have a loaner gi ready for you.
4. Wear spandex type bottoms or top (or comfortable clothing).

  1. I just wanted info/ rates on both jiu jitsu and crossfit, and if there is a monthly price for both together (one day jiu jitsu, two days crossfit- a week) Also, I see the schedule for crossfit, but not jiu jitsu.
    I am a 42 year old male, I live in OB and I’m looking for a program to get back in shape. I also have a wife and an 8 year old boy that might be interested as well. Thanks for the info!!
