What do you offer?
We offer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Adults and Kids, and CrossFit for Adults.
What is Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on ground fighting- incorporating a system of joint locks, choke holds, sweeps, and positional dominance in order to control an opponent and force him or her to submit. The Stronghold offers a comprehensive BJJ program for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Whether you are interested in preparing for national tournaments or simply looking for a fun and exciting hobby, our program will equip you with the tools you need to meet your goals. We offer a friendly and open atmosphere, so please drop by and check us out!
What is CrossFit?
A community based, encouraging, highly motivational strength and conditioning program that gets you results. We have no mirrors and no judgements. Whether you are the seasoned athlete or new to fitness, CrossFit is for you. We work completely with functional movements and make sure that you never see any stationary workout machines. Our programs stay constantly varied and will always keep you motivated.
I have never trained in a Martial Art or CrossFit, would The Stronghold be a good fit for me?
The Stronghold is a great place for beginners who are interested in Jiu Jitsu or CrossFit. Prior experience is not necessary.
What are your recommended ages for your Kids Jiu Jitsu Program?
We currently offer classes for Toddlers (Ages 3-4), Kids from Ages 5-12, and 13 and up. Depending on their size, Kids 13+ may be eligible to participate with the Adult class.
What makes The Stronghold different from other gyms?
At The Stronghold, we pride ourselves in providing high quality instruction and fostering community within our schools. While some schools may treat you like a number who pays monthly dues, we treat you like family. We encourage all of our members to participate in our community events, which occur often. We don’t just hang out in the gym, but hang out as a family outside as well. BBQ’s at the Beach, Baseball Games, Rock Climbing Days, the list goes on. Some may take breaks from training, but they will also be apart of The Stronghold Family and are welcome to all of our events and functions.
What equipment do I need prior to training at The Stronghold?
For Jiu Jitsu, we offer both gi (kimono) and no-gi classes. You can purchase a gi through us if you do not have one already. For no-gi classes, a rashguard and boardshorts are recommended. If you are coming in to try out a few classes and do not have a gi, rashguard or boardshorts, a shirt and workout shorts are perfectly fine. For CrossFit, any type of workout apparel would be acceptable.
Who teaches your Jiu Jitsu and CrossFit Classes?
Our head Jiu Jitsu instructor is Michael Cusi. He received his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Roy Harris in August 2010. He is currently continuing his training with Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles. Vince Colcol is a Purple Belt under Mike Cusi and teaches classes at our Eastlake location. Henry Iribe is a Brown Belt under Mike Cusi and teaches classes at our Rancho Bernardo location.
Our head CrossFit instructor is Ray Regno. Ray has also completed courses for CrossFit Endurance, CrossFit Kids, and CrossFit Coach’s Prep. In 2013 he became a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Certified Coach.
Do you offer Free Trials?
Yes! We offer a Free Week Trial for CrossFit, and 1 Free Class for Jiu Jitsu. You may also schedule a Free Private Intro Session with one of our highly qualified instructors.
