Women’s Self-Defense Classes – February 2014

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014

We will be holding a Women’s Self-Defense Seminar on Thursday, February 13 at Point Loma and February 20 at Eastlake (7PM-9PM). We try to bring Jim Perondi (many of you know him and have taken this class already) every year to provide practical techniques for Self-Defense. We always encourage Women to train Jiu Jitsu long-term, but we know some are hesitant so if you can at least set aside 2 hours, this seminar is great. Jim also covers some techniques outside of Jiu Jitsu and general awareness tips.

In the past we have done this for free but truth be told: free also translates into flaky. It will be $10 a participant and all funds will be donated to the San Diego Rescue Mission per Jim’s request. He never charges for this event because he genuinely cares about women learning this stuff. However this time around, The Stronghold is choosing to take donations because in the past women would reserve their spot only to no-show, and unfortunately we had to turn away others because the class was full.

If you would like to participate and we request that everyone pays/secures their spot by the Monday prior that way we can accommodate last minute reservations should you need to cancel. Please share with all your female friends, it can save a life! Please e-mail!

Thank you for all your support for helping us fill 100 Shoeboxes filled with gifts for Operation Christmas Child. We had a great turnout! We still have about 50 boxes that are incomplete and are still in need of socks, washcloths, coloring books, and small toys. If you are able to donate any items or give a monetary donation, we’d greatly appreciate it! We will be sending our boxes to the Drop Off location the week of November 18. To donate, visit us at our Point Loma, Eastlake or Rancho Bernardo location or donate via Paypal on

For 20 years, Operation Christmas Child has been organizing Christmas shoebox donations for children around the globe. Boxes contain toys, school supplies, toiletries and more for kids ages 2-14. This year, The Stronghold has a goal of sending 100 shoeboxes to Operation Christmas Child, and we hope you’ll be able to support!

We are looking for the following donations (need items marked in red, green items have been donated!):
50 pairs of socks
100 pair of slippers
100 tubes of toothpast
100 toothbrushes
100 bars of mild soap
100 combs
85 washcloths
80 small books
100 boxes of crayons or markers
100 packages of pencils or pens
50 pads of paper or coloring books
50 toy cars, small dolls or stuffed animals
50 miscellaneous toys (yo-yos, jump ropes, etc – please no guns or war items)
76 small flashlights
50 accessories (sunglasses, hair clips, hair ties, toy jewelry, watches)
$700 – cover cost of shipping 100 boxes ($7 each) Monetary donations still accepted by clicking the link below. If you would like us to purchase the items on your behalf, just let us know what items you’d like the money to go towards!

The Stronghold will be providing 100 plastic shoeboxes (so kids can keep their items safe for a long time!) and 100 Stronghold T-Shirts. This is a great project for ages young and old! Let’s remember that Christmas is a time of giving! Please note that all items should be new and unused and that items should be compact to be able to fit as many items as possible in a shoebox.

Some suggested places to purchase items: Costco (buy items in bulk) or 99 cent stores for toys, toiletries and school supplies. Drop off your donations at a Stronghold near you (Point Loma, Eastlake or Rancho Bernardo) by Saturday, November 9. We will have a donation basket marked “Operation Christmas Child Donation Items.” If you are not near a Stronghold and want to support with monetary donations, you can do so by clicking here. Any amount helps! We need to raise $700 to cover shipping costs and will use any surplus donations to cover missing items.

Join us on Sunday, November 10 at 3PM at our Point Loma location for our Operation Christmas Child Packing Party! Bring a Christmas dish to share and have fun with us as we pack 100 shoeboxes! After we finish, we will take a group photo to include in the shoebox for the kids!

Be sure to bookmark to track our progress of donations and use our official Hashtag: #StrongholdOCC. Thank you for your support. We look forward to spreading Christmas love to kids worldwide with your donations!

Happy Anniversary Stronghold Family!

Tuesday, October 1st, 2013

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

We went through the whole day without realizing today is our 6th anniversary. We want to thank all past and current CrossFit and BJJ members for being part of our team and family. Hopefully we have had as much an impact on you as you have had on ours! Looking back, we never would have guessed: 3 kids, 3 gyms, no real life business experience and plenty of mistakes but somehow we are still managing! There is no other path we would’ve have wanted for ourselves. Thank you again to everyone that helped make all this possible!
