Help Save The Stronghold

Hi Family and Friends,

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this letter, and I am hoping that I can truly come and rally support from the community in order to save part of the building space that The Stronghold is about to lose. In November 2016, we acquired a new landlord and the end result is that our rent has now been tripled. Our response was to do a couple things: restructure our business and to also launch a nonprofit, which would help us obtain state and federal grants to cover the deficit. I have been working tirelessly for 3 months with over 100 key community leaders to brainstorm ideas for our front space which would have been the new home of our nonprofit. Unfortunately we are at a crossroads where if I don’t receive enough pledges or community support in a week, it will be given away for a franchise opportunity, which is what I spent so much time trying to avoid. We have a 1,700 square foot space and my vision is that it would house the following:

1) A community space for organizations to rent out for events, fundraisers, birthday parties, etc.
2) A Kids and Teens Enrichment Academy/Recreation Center for morning and After-School Programs
3) Extra Mat Space for our free programs for at-risk and underprivileged youth. Currently we are working on our free programs for Wrestling (partnered with Point Loma High School), Jiu Jitsu and Self-Defense.
4) A Parent Cafe where parents can socialize or work while their children are in evening classes.

My goal is to get $117,000 of pledges and support, which would cover an ample amount for rent and renovations before we fully launch the space. Pledges mean that you do not have to commit to paying it all up front, as I know this is a huge request. What it does mean is that if you are able to pledge any amount, I will be able to present these pledges to the landlord in order for us to keep the space community-based as originally intended. This also means if you are interested in getting a tax-deductible write-off for the nonprofit, I can also do this as well. Your pledge can also cover a variety of things, for example a future event to host in the event space, or even a Stronghold membership.

I truly appreciate your consideration and willingness to help The Stronghold exist to be a community outreach leader of San Diego. Thank you for your time to read. If you are interested in pledging any amount, please text me at 858.722.0942 or you are also more than welcome to call.

Warm Regards,
Raquel Cusi
